New I-CBT Intensive Treatment Options for Scrupulosity & Related Forms of OCD
Find peace in your relationship with God—without getting stuck in endless doubt
If you’re here, you may not be struggling with “typical anxiety.”
You may be struggling with questions like:
Am I worthy enough?
Was that a sin—or just a thought?
What if I didn’t properly repent?
What if I didn’t feel the Spirit the way I should have?
What if I am not who I appear to be?
What if I don’t have enough faith?
For many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, OCD doesn’t show up as obvious rituals like handwashing or lock checking—it shows up as scrupulosity.
It can look like overthinking, constant checking, replaying decisions, or feeling like you can never quite feel “settled” in your relationship with God.
An I-CBT Intensive is designed to help you understand exactly how that process works—and begin stepping out of it.
You’re Not Losing Your Faith—You’re Stuck in Doubt
One of the most painful parts of scrupulosity is this:
It doesn’t feel like OCD.
It feels like you’re trying to be a good person.
A faithful person.
An honest disciple.
But instead of bringing peace, it creates:
Constant uncertainty
Pressure to “get it exactly right”
Fear of making the wrong spiritual decision
Difficulty trusting your own thoughts, feelings, or intentions
This is where I-CBT is different. It helps you see how OCD is distorting your ability to trust what you already know about yourself, your faith, and about Heavenly Father.
What Is I-CBT?
Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for OCD that focuses on how obsessional doubt is created in the mind.
In scrupulosity, OCD often pulls you away from what is actually happening and into imagined possibilities, like:
What if I didn’t repent correctly?
What if I was dishonest without realizing it?
What if I’m not truly worthy?
I-CBT helps you recognize when your mind has left reality and entered an OCD-based “story”—and teaches you how to return to what is actually present.
Many Latter-day Saint clients prefer I-CBT to more traditional exposure-based treatment options because it is aligned with their values, respectful of their beliefs, and focuses on helping you have confidence to trust yourself again rather than just to tolerate uncertainty.
What Makes an Intensive Different?
Instead of meeting for one hour per week, an intensive allows us to do this work in a focused, immersive format.
This is especially helpful for scrupulosity, where:
You may feel discouraged after previous unsuccessful experiences with ERP
You have time constraints related to missionary service
You want highly specialized treatment from an expert, but do not live in a state where Claire is licensed
You would like the option to work with Claire in person in Provo, UT
You have a therapist whom you like and would like to continue working with, but would like to work with Claire specifically on scrupulosity-related issues
An intensive gives you the time and space to:
Fully understand your OCD pattern
See how doubt is being constructed
Practice stepping out of that process in real time
Many clients describe this as finally being able to “see what’s been happening all along.”

Why This Works for Scrupulosity
Scrupulosity thrives on:
Uncertainty
Overanalysis
Trying to “figure things out”
Fear of getting it wrong
Weekly therapy can help—but often feels slow when your mind is active all day, every day.
An intensive allows you to:
Interrupt the cycle more quickly
Understand your thought process in depth
Build confidence in real time
Stop restarting every week
What Clients Often Say
While every experience is different, many clients describe:
Feeling clearer about what is OCD vs. what isn’t
Less urgency to “figure everything out”
Increased ability to trust their decisions
A more peaceful connection to their faith
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this appropriate for members of the Church?
Yes. This work is designed to be respectful of your beliefs and values. The curriculum was designed by a practicing Latter-day Saint therapist and OCD specialist for Latter-day Saints.
Is this the same as ERP?
No. I-CBT focuses on the doubt process itself, which many clients with scrupulosity find especially helpful. I-CBT does not involve exposures.
Will this fix everything in a few days?
No—but it can create meaningful clarity and a strong foundation for ongoing progress. I-CBT involves a large amount of psychoeducation and learning. It is well-suited to an intensive format because we can effectively combine much of that early learning into a short period of time, allowing you to jumpstart your treatment.
